Humanitarian project State institution “Minskconcert” “The organ in the Upper town district”
Today Minsk has five wind organs. They are located in The Belarusian State Philharmonic, in The Church of St. Roch, in The Cathedral, in The Belarusian State Academy of Music and in the concert hall “Verhni Gorod”
The Belarusian State Academy of Music has an educational organ. The Belarusian State Philharmonic and the concert hall “Verhni Gorod” have two concert organs.
The organ, which is installed in the concert hall “Verhni Gorod” was created at the end of the19th century.
The difference of this organ is the pneumatic action. The signal about pressing the key is transmitted to the pipe by using air. This is all a valve system that opens and closes here without any interference from the technologies of the XX and XXI centuries.
For more than 80 years, the organ was inoperative. In 2017, it was moved to the concert hall “Verhni Gorod”, where its reconstruction began. In 2020, the main work on the reconstruction of the organ was completed and the first organ concert took place in March 2020.
Today, work on further reconstruction of the organ has been suspended: the absence of the side walls of the organ body and deterioration of the bellows do not allow to fully hear and feel all the power and beauty of the organ's sound. In addition, there is no front part in the instrument.
The organs in the churches and two concert instruments allow to organize the organ music festival in Minsk.
